The Derby City Duel took place this past weekend in Louisville, Kentucky and there was a whole crop of young talent that came to make some noise. And, in this day and age of basketball, you need to be able to shoot it and shoot it well. Here are the players that could really rain it down from deep this past weekend.
1) Parker Odle | #3 Southern Indiana Blaze 2026
Odle was on fire all weekend. Particularly in the full game I watched of his, he drained three 3-pointers in a row at one point. He has a quick release and a great ability to find those open spots on the perimeter. He can finish with a hand in his face as well.
2) Athens McGillis | #8 Midwest Basketball Club 2026 McGillis
McGillis led his team all weekend and one of the ways he did it was by shooting great from beyond the arc. He is so fast that he can get to spots before the opposing team can get a hand in his face. He is great in catch-and-shoot situations, but he can also create his own shot by pulling up from deep. He was the most Steph Curry-esque shooter I saw this weekend by far.
3) Tre Martin | #13 Southern Indiana Blaze 2026
Martin was doing it all for his team throughout the weekend. He was never shy to shoot the ball and most of the time, it paid off. He can shoot the ball at the mid-range and 3-point levels very well. His shot making ability is consistent and that’s one of the most important skills you can have as a basketball player.
4) Myles Howard | #10 Louisville Legends 2028
Howard is already a very pure shooter at such a young age. He can both catch-and-shoot and pull-up on his own. He is a fantastic scorer on every level and he lit it up from deep in the second game of his I watched. The release is already quick and the form precise. He is quick and can get to his desired spots with ease. A natural shooter and scorer no doubt.
